  • Hochosterwitz Castle by Manuel Wieczorek

Hochosterwitz Castle I love this castle. It’s dreamlike. 14 gates before you get to the main castle. Situated on a 160m high Dolomite rock, embedded in a beautiful landscape. / You can find a description here: link / The shot shows only a small quantum of the real beauty. Did I already say that I love this castle? ;-) I made here a HDR out of three RAW-files. The unnatural lock is wanted. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / This is no stock-picture. • Heiligenblut by Béla Török

Heiligenblut (meaning holy blood) is a municipality in the district of Spittal an der Drau in the Austrian state of Carinthia. Situated in the high-Alpine region of the Hohe Tauern mountain range at 1,288 meters, Heiligenblut is located at the foot of the Großglockner, the highest mountain in Austria. / The Gothic pilgrimage church of Saint Vinzenz, with its needle spire, was built between 1460-1491 and contains a relic of Christ’s Holy Blood. According to legend the relic, which is kept in a sacrament house, was brought here in 914 from Constantinople by the Danish knight Briccius. On his way home he was buried by an avalanche and his corpse was found where three ears of wheat broke through the snow (see the coat of arms). The church also houses a late-Gothic winged altarpiece from 1520, and a crypt and tomb containing the remains of Briccius. /

  • Murau by Béla Török

Murau is the capital of the district of the same name in Styria, located along the Mur river, Austria. It has a population of 2,331. The area was already settled in the Bronze Age and Roman time, for the first time document which mentioned Murau was in the year 1250. During the Second World War a camp for the German armed forces was located here, in which captured British prisoners of war had been kept. In May of 1945 groups of resistances freed those prisoners. The area was not occupied by the Russians. As the Russians came near Murau, some people of Murau freed the British prisoners to tell the Russians that Murau is already occupied by the British. The Russians returned and Murau was free. /

this is a 9 shot panorama (3 rows with 3 shots each – each shot 3 exposures > 27 shots) of the Karlskirche in Vienna. it’s one of the most impressive baroque churches north of the Alps and was built in the years 1713-1737. / the then ruling emperor Karl VI (Charles VI) wanted the church built in rememberance of the last plague epidemic that hit Vienna just months before. / the church was planned and built by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach who, however, died in 1723 – after his death his son Joseph Emanuel continued and finished the Karlskirche.

  • Waiting for the Sunrise by Manuel Wieczorek

Waiting for the Sunrise I made this shot down from the Hochrindl, Carinthia. The clouds where approximately in the hight of 1561m. In the background you can see the mountain range Karawanken. It’s the natural border between Slovenia and Austria. / The picture is a HDRi out of four images. Nothing special, but I want to share it with you. This was a great day. Got up at 4 o’clock. Arived at the bottom of the “mountain” at half past 5 (it’s freezing cold in winter at this time). The first thing I saw were two falling stars and the most beautiful night sky I have ever seen. The climb was hard. Too early for me and I was lazy the last months. / I got on the peak at 7 o’clock and I had to wait till sunrise. What a feeling. In front of you the sky gets brighter and in your back you can still see the stars. While I waited I have drunk tea and took some shots. This is one of them. • Vienna Heldenplatz - a historic square by Stefan Trenker

Heldenplatz in Vienna, a square with quite a lot of history… the statue shows Archduke Charles (Erzherzog Karl) and is the older of two statues showing riders, which also give the Heldenplatz (square of heros) its name. the Heldenplatz became famous in a negative way, as Adolf Hitler announced Austria’s annexation (Anschluss) from the balcony of the new Hofburg. the square itself is huge and around it a lot of history is on display, like the Hofburg, home to the Austrian President, the National Library, “across the street” (you can see the two cupolas) you’ll find the Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural Sciences, the Parliament and the city hall.
