  • alien world by victor

Alien winged predators / Taken some time ago, through the porthole of an infinity drive dimension warping starship, on a terrestrial type inner planet orbiting an orange dwarf star 2061 light years from earth, it was twice the mass of our planet and several times the gravity, with a large and close by moon causing huge tidal irruptions in its thin and pliable crust, these tidal movement providing more heat that the rather feeble star that it orbited could, enabling it to maintain a livable temperature, though this had the effect of making the constantly moving surface of the planet a rather hazardous place for life, note the tortured and desolate landscape below ! “luckily“, because of the huge gravity it had a thick atmosphere to protect the life zone from the almost constantly falling meteors, seen here streaking through the upper stratosphere, and to be able to support a whole airborne ecology, in effect what we, here, on lonely little planet earth, would perceive as flying dinosaurs. Complete with all their terrible tooth and claw weaponry, and enormous appetite driving them on to horrible acts of winged violence and carnivorous butchery. Despite the ultra high technology I had under my personal command, I was still lucky to escape this miserable, dim and unhappy world, ….though still emotionally tortured, ….. physically unscathed. Hmmmn……. The dog is looking funny at me ??

I apologize. I was made aware that the previous version I uploaded with a border gave people problems. Here is the borderless version.

  • Leaving Snake Mountain by Tom Godfrey

The cliff face shimmered slightly as the craft slipped softly into the blue. They hugged the sheer wall until they were well clear, then dipped into the powdered soft whiteness beneath. It had been a while since their last meeting. Hopefully this one would go better… I have used this digital painting as the cover for my / 2009 Sci Fi Calendar /

  • Jumpin Jacques by John Hooton

American P51 Mustang at the 2008 Biggin Hill Air Show. This actual aircraft originally belonged to the 332nd fighter group and bears several battle scars by way of repaired bullet holes in the fuselage. This group became famous as the first all Afro American fighter group – the Tuskegee Airmen, Tuskegee being the town where they trained in Macon County, Alabama. One of their main roles was escorting and protecting B-17 bombers, the ‘flying fortresses’. The present owner, Jacques Bourret, adopted this new colour scheme after discovering a photo of a P51 aircraft in this ‘Jumpin Jacques’ livery. Technical Details: Camera: Nikon D3 / Lens: Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 / Focal Length: 400mm / ISO: 200 / Exposure: 1/500 sec at f/11 / Post Processing: Photoshop CS3 Background: Nikon Coolpix P5100 © 2008 John Hooton

About This Group

This group is designed for everything aeronautical: wartime aircraft, space exploration, hot air balloons, everything and anything to related to flight. Open to photographs and art as well as writing of all sorts: articles, stories and poems. Any images not following the guidelines will automatically be removed without notification.

Synoposis: Aeronautics is the science involved with the study, design, and manufacture of flight-capable machines, or the techniques of operating aircraft. While the term—literally meaning “sailing the air”—originally referred solely to the science of operating the aircraft, it has since been expanded to include technology, business and other aspects related to aircraft. One of the significant parts in aeronautics is a branch of physical science called aerodynamics, which deals with the motion of air and the way it interacts with objects in motion, such as an aircraft. Aviation is a term sometimes used interchangeably with aeronautics, although “aeronautics” includes lighter-than-air craft such as airships, while “aviation” does not.

Please abide by this group’s guidelines:

  1. Two uploads per day only.
  2. Don’t critique an art piece unless explicitly stated by the artist that they want critique.
  3. All uploads must have a “Aviation” theme.
#Any images not following the guidelines will automatically be removed without notification.
