Euphorbia obesa – Gingham Golf Ball, Baseball Plant – this is almost perfectly sperical at first, so says Britannica, native to South Africa, the pale green stem has 8 almost flat ribs and red-brown horizontal and vertical lines maeking a checked pattern. Small yellow-green cup shaped flowers appear in summer.

"Queen of the Night Profile" by tbealle
This is a one-night blooming flower called “Queen of the NIght” or the “Night Blooming Cereus”. Now this was a magical moment late at night outside on my deck. I saw the bulbs drop down from the leaf earlier in the day, so I stayed up late in anticipation to see this flower bloom. Boy did it bloom beautifully. It was unbelievable. I can’t wait to see it again next year! I will add the front view briefly…
