THE TREE ON THE MOUND by Chris Clark
The Tree on the Mound. The Christmas Tree which is situated on the Mound in Edinburgh each year is a present to the City from the King of Norway. This shows the tree and the other Christmas Lighting between the National Gallery of Scotland and Edinburgh Castle. This is my first attempt ever at editing my images on a Laptop with no mouse attached instead of my PC which sadly passed away during December 2008 at the age of 5 ….......LOL

I joined RB in January 08 and at first added large amounts of images. Now it is time to think about trimming this back a bit as I have just too many images and of course most of them never get seen. Few people are going to work their way through more than 1000 images. Well, I say that, but sometimes, it is quite amazing, you can see that someone is having a really good look. I can see the number of views racking up quite rapidly some evenings. On my best day, I clocked up 2500 views in one day. Once again, thank you all for taking the time to view, comment, favourite and place me on your Watchlists. I am continually amazed at the encouragement and friendship that has been shown to me. I have been most heartened by the wonderful support, continual encouragement and freely given help and advice I have received from this wonderful group who use RB. Those of you who know me are aware that I seldom respond with a “Thank You” when you are kind enough to comment on my work. I normally only respond if asked a question or if the response required some more information. I treasure every comment and I have learned a great amount from the RB community. I prefer to spend my time looking at and commenting on the wonderful work I see on RB every day. Of course, with so much wonderful work and so many fantastic artists on RB, we can only scratch the surface. I wish I had more time. I am now (currently) at 130,896 views. As I remove images, the number of views indicated will fall, so this will be the last time I will give a count. Also, as I remove images, those of you who have been kind enough to Favourite the shots will lose them, so I will apologise for that in advance. This process may take some time. I will start by removing the less popular images, ones which have no comments will go first (although if I believe there are any good ones, I may recycle a few). Thank you all, so very much for all your comments and encouragement over the last 12 months, I appreciate you all so very much. Kind regards, / Tom

Carew Castle and Bridge by Paul Gibbons
Carew is one of the few castles to display the development from Norman fortification to Elizabethan country house. There is evidence of a much earlier settlement, dating back perhaps some 2,000 years. The Castle is in a delightful country setting, overlooking the 23 acre Mill Pond. Over the centuries, remarkable individuals, some with close royal connections, have made their mark on the castle. The beautiful Princess Nest, the powerful Sir Rhys ap Thomas and the ambitious Sir John Perrot are all part of the Carew story. The Great Tournament of 1507, attended by 600 nobles, was one of the last of its kind in Britian.

Hever Castle in the afternoon sun by ChelseaBlue
Hever Castle, in Kent, England began as a country house, built in the 13th century and converted into a manor in 1462 by Geoffrey Boleyn, who served as Lord Mayor of the City of London. Some time after 1505, the Boleyn family moved in, and Anne Boleyn grew up here for a time, before she married King Henry VIII secretly in 1533. After she was executed in 1536, the property came into the possession of Henry VIII. He subsequently bestowed it on Anne of Cleves upon the annulment of their marriage in 1540, but she probably spent little time there. The building subsequently passed through various owners, including the Waldegrave family in 1557, and the Meade Waldo family from 1749–1903 until it was acquired and completely restored by the American millionaire William Waldorf Astor, who used it as a family residence. The estate is now run as a conference centre, but the castle is open to the public and is particularly well known for its mazes.

Scotney Castle undergoing a little T.L.C. by ChelseaBlue
Scotney Castle is a country house with gardens south-east of Lamberhurst in the valley of the River Bewl in Kent, England. Belonging to the National Trust, the central features are the ruins of a medieval, moated manor house, Scotney Old Castle, which is on an island on a small lake. The lake is surrounded by sloping, wooded gardens with fine collections of rhododendrons, azaleas and kalmia for spring colour, summer wisteria and roses, and spectacular autumn colour.
