  • Labels: #1 by Steve Cozart

It seems the world is determined to affix labels to everyone and everything, which sometimes makes us do the same. We sometimes find ourselves lost in a list of labels. Label acquisition, label lust, label jealousy, label shame, label pride. Humanity lost -

  • BEHIND MY SWORD I STAND by DALE CRUM

Here is my face on the evening of the first day of this New Year of 2009--Ready for battle. / / My son Matthew aka—Matty shot this of me along with quite a few shots you will be seeing in the future. He is such a fabulous Photog-and this one is my FAV!! Welcome to my gnarly mug. I usually don’t look at my own face as a handsome thing-this one though—I think I look Pretty Cool!! LOL! Thought you folks might like it. This is the embodiment of my soul—-a Warrior Mine eyes do search the deepest purple shadows of the human condition about me / Always ready to swing my seasoned blade again / Alert to the caustic crimes against mankind / Violators beware--the beasts inside thee-even the more / I am not alone-for long side me be many-many a soldier fine and raging / If thee be pierced through-better it be thine eyes-than thy pitch black soul / On which side-of my burning blade-art thou found this very day? / Whose beckoning dost thou cherish as most beloved? / Dost thou stand strong and free-or-dost though follow shackled weakly? / The tide of man is shifting-the current drawing-to whom dost thou hold fast Oh pilgrim-to whom—to whom?

  • Dark Thoughts by Normf

This photo (of my son Chris) was blurred (camera shake) taken spontaneously under bad natural light. Even though it was a poor photo I was struck by the dark mood it showed (sometimes the content is more important than the quality of the shot?) so in comes Photoshop. The photo was altered in a number of ways. Initially I sharpened as much as possible using the High Pass method and after cleaning up the noise and artifacts applied the Orton effect (softening it again!), then using a number of masked adjustment layers, I applied some filters (eg Dark Strokes), played around with the blending modes to get it to what still represented the original impression I had of this shot! I’ve subsiquently reduced all but the face to grey scale following a suggestion from Duncan Waldron. Thanks Duncan.

About This Group

This is a group for photographs, paintings, and drawings of ADULTS displaying OVERT (possibly exaggerated) emotions other than being happy. This can be accomplished by facial expression, body language, and setting. This is not a group for all portraits. The potential feelings of the subject must be readily identifiable. We are looking for obvious expression of rage, anger, sadness, tantrums, weeping, yelling, loneliness, loss, fear, hurt, etc.
