  • On The Footplate by Jacqueline Baker

This is an image of a wonderful old man who allowed me to stand on the footplate of his steam train while he was stoking up the fire and let me take a photograph of him, i was absolutely over the moon and really felt humble and priviledged as though i had stepped back in time, one things for sure it was HOT on there!

Thought this had sort of a turn of the century – vintage – circa 1900 feel to it. my oldest son who just turned 9 years old

  • Bench at Frankston Pier by Patricia Gibson

This image was taken late in the evening on 12.10.08 at Frankston. With my Canon 450D. I had a play with it and decided to stick with the Sepia Filter because it suited the character of the image!

  • Pure Charm by Elaine Harriott

As the train pulls into the station, our young lady has an element of charm about her. Does she look a bit shy prehaps?.... This young lady has had a great journey – please feel free to follow this journey by taking a look at the shots that make up this series and the story that goes with it.

  • Engaging by Elaine Harriott

It looks as though our lovely young lady is feeling a bit more relaxed with a cup of tea on her train journey. This must be the longest journey for her and hopefully it will be worth it when she gets to her destination….I still wonder who she is meeting on the other side??? This shot is part of a series I am running at the moment. To catch up on what’s been happening in the story, please visit: / A Journey Begins / A Long Way / And She Leaves / Locked Out / Making Plans / On Board

  • Soldier Contemplation by Polly Peacock

Deep in thought, this United States Calgary Soldier, was probably drenched with sweat, wearing a wool uniform, during a reenactment, at the Old Town Sacramento Gold Rush Days in California.

  • The way we were... by monocotylidono

...just about 25 years ago. A time when “The Wall” and “Hotel California” actually made sense :-) We don’t need no education / We don’t need no thought control / No dark sarcasm, in the classroom / Teachers leave those kids alone… (Pink Floyd – The Wall)

  • Dark Satanic Mills by sword

    from my original acrylic painting

  • Dot and the Kangaroo by Ivy Izzard

When she did look up, she was surprised to see that she was no longer alone. She forgot all her trouble and fear in her astonishment at seeing a big grey Kangaroo squatting quite close to her, in front of her. – Dot and the Kangaroo by Ethel C. Pedley Backgound image by Akira Kanga reference by NefaroStock

Senza rada – così io sono, in luce quasi feroce, ancorata – qui. Without my stand off, in cruel light, standing still. This is me.

  • THE THING..... by Larry Llewellyn

This was outside near a shoppers drugmart, in the small town of Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada. It appeared to be a sort of weather vane as it spun around… looks like an old reptile….. very artsy for a small town… seemed out of place with the old 1800 buildings!

  • HAS POTENTIAL by Charlene Aycock

This rusted out car with all the colors I found to be an interesting shot. Taken as is, and trying a different angle and perspective. Taken at an ISO of 100, Using my Canon Rebel XLT, Lens was a 18-55, using a polarized filter.

  • Please teach me Dad by Samantha Lewandowski

My son is keen to follow in the footsteps of his Dad.

  • Gifted Hands by Samantha Lewandowski

I love taking shots of my husbands big rough hands in sepia, as they show so much detail, and the colour keeps with the era of when ‘real’ men had the talent to do everything by hand.

About This Group

Out of the Past is a group dedicated to those individuals who desire to imitate the great photographers of past eras. The History of photography is a fascinating on and there is nothing quite like the pictures of “days gone by”. Images submitted to this group are expected to be in a style reminiscent of those who created and helped photography evolve into what it is today.
The purpose of this group is not to display objects that we can see in our present day that existed in the past, but to display images as though they were taken in their respective era. It is to imitate those who initially discovered, created, and enabled the evolution of photography. Men such as William Henry Fox Talbot , and his image The Open Door, Joseph Niepce , Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre and so forth..
Please NOTE : AN IMAGE THAT REPRESENTS HISTORY DOES NOT MAKE IT ELIGIBLE FOR THIS GROUP. WE ARE LOOKING FOR IMAGES THAT EITHER IMITATE STYLES AND TECHNIQUES OF PAST ERAS OR IMAGES THAT ARE LITERALLY TAKEN FROM THAT ERA ITSELF. (ie your grandmothers portrait, civil war portraits taken DURING the civil war, etc.)

We have had a lot of confusion on this point in the past. Please understand, something that is black and white, or sepia, does not mean it is in representative of another era. Also please understand that any image that contains RUST, does not belong in this group.
