Bush's America II I'm Hungry
Result of Bush’s economic policy. Hunger In America
From Science News, October 28, 2005
Hunger In America Rises By 43 Percent Over Last 5 Years
The USDA report, Household Food Security in the United States, 2004, says that 38.2 million Americans live in households that suffer directly from hunger and food insecurity, including nearly 14 million children. That figure is up from 31 million Americans in 1999.
Dr. J. Larry Brown, an authority on hunger, stated the following:
“With this astonishing level of food deprivation in America,” Brown concluded, “we need President Bush to step up to the plate. If he now asks Congress to cut federal food programs, hunger will increase even further. We need the moral leadership to stem this crisis.”

Great capture Helen. Very powerful.

Love how you did this Helen. You have researched this well. Its a sad stat of affairs.
Bush does not care about anything other than taking care of the FatCats who got him elected,.the war profiteers and the Halliburton’s, etc.
Helen Bascom, about 1 year ago
I decided to use the government’s own numbers Susan. The true figure is probably much higher.

Tragic story…
Rich are getting richer, poor getting poorer.
Lumineux, about 1 year ago
I have so much to say about this subject, but it makes me so damn angry, that I fear I may disgrace myself. We would have pretty similar stats here in Aust too, I work with kids & families that really do it tough, sadly not enough people, (not just governments), give a hoot, as long as it doesn’t effect them. (Sorry! – steps off soap box).
Excellent concept Helen, raising awareness for another very worthy cause. (there are, sadly, too many).

I have to limit myself to just these three: battered women and children, hunger and poverty, and stopping blood diamonds. I will be stretching myself beyond the limits of human endurance if I don’t

Isn’t it sad that we waste over 200 million tons of food a week and have five or six stores per city filled with food, but we still have homeless people and children who are starving and wasting away. WE truly are the glutos of the world.
Angel312, about 1 year ago
What can I say? This photo brings tears to my eyes. No child EVER have to go without food! The look on his face says it all! I really admire what you do for Helen, and I think it takes a special kind of person to go to the lengths that you do to help others. Your art is an expression and you use that to help those in need. Something that puts us all to shame. You keep on doing what you do and I will close with saying this. “I hope that no-one goes without food on this Thanksgiving day, but I know that is asking a lot. So, maybe if each of us just invited someone over that otherwise wouldn’t have any place to go, or we donate to our local charity for food pantries to be able to give food to those otherwise would have none, etc… Hopefully we can make someone thankful for the food they will have on this day.
For those that celebrate and those in the US, Happy Thanksgiving Day

This is so sad Helen my hat goes off to you I commend you. Our goverment cuts deep within the core of their people. The compassion is missing….I agree with Xtom and Angel it’s time people stop thinking about theirselves if they have any compassion in their hearts at all.

The one time great nation and great political leadership, has definately gone astray, no party side is what they used to be, they are blended into one huge greed machine.. I hate to say, and not because I dont like this work, but because it is so true..* This is sad, so much power and whealth and so very little compassion for the fellow man.
This work is very powerful and extremely well done, great job Helen.
MrsBuden, about 1 year ago
Helen all I can say is you really capture what is going on in the world today and your work is brilliant! Unfortunately you are capturing the truth and I can only hope that things will get better, it is absolutely disgusts me when I think about all the problems America is having and send all my love to everyone! Well done Helen – you are a warrior and am thrilled that you are so honest!

He looks like he’s trying to reach out of the art and make some kind of human contact. The sign on the wall and the awkwardly-displayed food shelves (which all Save-A-Lots have) help paint the sad picture.
I know what people shop at Save-A-Lot. It’s people who can’t afford stores like Giant Eagle. It’s low-income people, anxious people, people slipping down the scale, watching their quality of life decay. People who are trying to wring every cent from every dollar at the end of the month, or at least feeling financially insecure because of medical issues or just the high cost of living versus their low incomes from their cheap-ass corporate employers. We shop there from time to time, depending on how the money’s holding out.
Keep it up, Helen. You’re on to something here!

I love it. I never wanted Bush, and still believe Gore won the election. Bush needs to do, like they did on Oprah, let him and his wife try to live on minimum wage for just one month. I think he would be singing a different tune. Let’s destroy other countries, and then pay millions to rebuild them, instead of identifing and admitting to our own tragedy. We are not a perfect country, and Bush is far from a half way decent piece of slime. I miss Clinton. I hope everyone votes for Hillary, or we are in big trouble.

Stunning, disturbing and well presented. I applaud your pursuit and goal. I do believe that this admin. brought the u.s to it’s knees and created even a poorer America. This image is worth more than 1000 words. I am buying this card and even if it’s a little I support your cause and dedication.
