Thank you everyone for your wonderfully supportive comments , this is a new work first shown here, visually simpler and more ‘abstract’ than my earlier work. Thank you again for all of your
encouraging and kind comments.

This one just rips me! I must say that it is the third time I’ve been here to see this one and my eye consistently sees it from a satellites point of view (Title or no title), —yet I’m on it, if not in it . It has a truly amazing power to draw one over to it and in.
It really lands somewhere!

Hi Kafka, can I please ask a technical question about any medium you use for the glaze layers, and how long you need to leave it before applying another layer? It’s so rich, I’m jealous. Oils really do leave acrylics for dead.

Thank you everyone for your very kind comments
kafka in reply to Deb Gillett’s comment, 4 months ago
Deb, thank you for the kind words! – It was a fairly complex painting, the first layer is a thick impasto acrylic white just trowelled on with a pallette knife. Once dry there are several transparent acrylic glazes laid on then a layer of transparent oil paint thinned with turpentine and a small amount of poppy oil – layers were added one by one gradually reducing the turps and increasing the poppy oil until a pure oil mix is reached – each layer takes longer and longer to dry, the final layers take about a week each. The very last layers (2 in this case) are very lightly tinted linseed oil – they took ages to dry properly – there is no real rule with this, you have to just try it and see.

ps. there is a controlled wet-in-wet bleed top centre of the blue area where I tried to get the effect of a river estuary seen from above – that was just like a watercolour technique inserted half way through the process.

Thank you kafka. Now all I need is a little more patience…. who am I kidding a LOT more patience!!!! So is this experimental or do you actually know it won’t deconstruct over time? Have had that happen recently to one I was thrillled with and it’s a little hard to take.
kafka in reply to Deb Gillett’s comment, 4 months ago
In theory it should stay in one piece! Oil over acrylic should be OK
(I hope so as it has been sold!)
