Thanks Mary, most of my macros I shoot anywhere from 1cm to say 5 cm away from the subject, its difficult sometimes to get enough light in there and can take several shots before I’m happy with one! :)

I see have you considered using one of those lens ring flashes, they work well with macro lenses. Also they sell small flash covers that soften the light of a regular flash which are cheap less than $20.00 us. They too are useful for macro work where you want soft light, and do not want the flash to overpower the subject with a harsh flash. Plus they come in handy for doing people portraits. Your macro shots are supberb, what type of lens are you using or is it extention tubes?
