Geneva Lake Divers
In the Moment /// Overall Visual Art Winner
I found myself in Geneva for a week for work last year. The only other time I had been to Switzerland was Zurich for 2 nights in the middle of winter, so I was kind of surprised by the beautiful (and hot!) summer weather I experienced on this visit.
The Lake at Geneva is where everyone goes to cool off and I was mesmerised watching all these crazy dudes doing amazing things off a high-dive on the edge of the lake. I took a few shots and managed to capture this moment among them.
I entered this work into the 2007 Linden Gallery Post Card Show in St.Kilda, and was absolutely stoked to have been awarded one of the six entries to be reproduced as postcards and sold through the gallery.
Geneva Lake Divers belongs to the following groups:
In the Moment, Kairos - Capturing the Decisive Moment, Masterpiece: Photography, Out of the Blue (75%+ Blue artwork), Street Photography and Photojournalism and Travel and AdventureAvailable for sale as Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints and Framed Prints

This is so close to my heart, you wouldn’t believe. This reminds me when i was a kid, i use to visit an open air pool with dive stages like this. I had so much fun and it played a large part in my childhood. Sadly it’s no more, it’s been filled in!!!!!! Anyway getting back to your shot, this is great shot because you’ve got three divers off the boards doing obviously different dives, loads of divers chomping at the bit to dive. And you got a great foreground of a bather dripping wet…....absolutely stonking. Love it!

groovergreen, about 1 year ago
I remember seeing this in the Linden show but have only just realised why it works so well
—it’s the contrast between the cool, modernist lines of the high-dive, the silhouetted figures in repose and the contemplative man in the foreground vs the wild, exuberant bods in mid-air that makes this pic so funny and charming!Mark Hayward, about 1 year ago
Thankyou groovergreen. I appreciate you taking the time to analyse the shot and comment. Thanks for the feedback!

Fantastic shot and very well captured – just amazing to see three people so impossibly well captured in midair, with more people still preparing to join them. I also like the figure in the foreground, his positioning connects him directly to the action going on behind him
