Abstract...Memories
“Memories” is part of the Series “Abstract”..
As we get older our memories are like fragments, appearing when we least expect them….
Watercolour on Arches Hot Press Paper…
In a higher reality,
what if,
somewhere,
beyond the stars,
memories are stored,
each thought, carefully saved,
in multiple dimensions of a souls bliss,
virtues of joy
eternal, in heavenly nectar,
treasure chests of de-light,
vaults of love…excerpt…Michael Levy

RMonroe
Nice piece, the tomatos and everything sort of melting off the page..Wow:)
Janis Zroback in reply to RMonroe’s comment
Memories come and go and fade away without our being able to do anything about it…hence the melting away of the images….
Jan Piller
Oh this one is really interesting! I like this! Nice work Janis! I love how all the mories kinda run together… mine that do that now too…...
Janis Zroback in reply to Jan Piller’s comment
Memories do run together inexplicably… for example….under the table playing as kids, grandmother’s lace curtains, her vegetable garden, the grapes you were fed when you were sick, or the ones you gave your mother, when she was in the hospital, books you’ve read…some brightly coloured, some faded….mixed in, is the present, with water by your bed at night for the pills you take for that recurrent headache, waiting for your son to come home….he’s late again…though this is not really my life, I painted it so that anyone could identify with the images portrayed…

Julie Marks
Wonderful abstract about the nature of memories with touching images and vibrant colors to enhance the meaning of this beautiful piece. The pairing of the visual and your sensitive text adds dimension to this beautiful painting. I like the effect of the window that suggests the fading away of some memories and the entrance of others symbolized by the brightly colored imagery.
Janis Zroback in reply to Julie Marks’s comment
Thank you Julie…I love your insight into this painting and that you took the time to describe how you feel about it…it is so valuable to a painter to get the emotional reactions of viewers to the work…you are right on, by the way…the billowing lace curtains suggest that the window is open and that memories fade, in the same way as the dripping images and unpainted areas do….
Lesley Hill
Janis, an inspiring piece of work! Love it!
Janis Zroback in reply to Lesley Hill’s comment
Thank you so much Lesley, for all your great comments on my work…...
Estelle O'Brien
You know Janis…I agree with all the other insightful comments about this great painting..but looking at it also struck a note of sadness somewhere in the recesses of my mind for memories I DON’T have…and a kinda wishing I did…weird eh? A beautiful work that reaches unexpected parts of my soul.
Janis Zroback in reply to Estelle O'Brien’s comment
Thanks Estelle…a painting like this is different for every viewer…each item shown will have different connotations….equally valid are your feelings that some of the things portrayed were not part of your past and you wish they had been..as well knowing that some of them might have been, but you can’t remember them…I’m glad it has resonated with so many people….

John Fish
I love this watercolor. the painting style is so beautiful and I always like images overlapping and intersecting in this manner. Because that’s the way I things. It seems more real to me than if everything is placed where it is supposed to be. I just got back from visiting my 90 year old mother and this memory theme certainly captures the mood perfectly. I get the feeling at that age memories are a huge part of her day
Janis Zroback in reply to John Fish’s comment
Thank you so much John…I’m really pleased the this painting resonates with you…I try to do a variety of styles of paintings, as everyone has different preferences, and this is a site for selling cards and prints….my website has an entirely different collection….
