For us the wheel will ever turn, inexorable.
Sometimes a hefty, lugubrious millstone, unmanageable.
Sometimes a lively, spritely Ferris wheel, incorrigible.
But it will never favour us.

For us the wheel will ever turn, incurious.
Sometimes we will cling for dear life, anxious.
Sometimes we will straddle the rim, ambitious.
But it will never heed us.

For us the wheel will ever turn, perpetual.
At some point we get on, congenital.
At some point we get off, terminal.
But it will never acknowledge us.

For us the wheel will ever turn, undiscriminating.
Sometimes it will circle us towards beauty, astonishing.
Sometimes it will circle us towards tragedy, afflicting.
But it will never guide us.

For us the wheel will ever turn, ironically.
We like to think we can effect its speed, hopefully.
We like to think we can alter its course, stupidly.
Because, for us, the wheel will never turn.
