I’m having the equivalent of a garage sale, except that money is not allowed. I will be accepting only 2 forms of payment – wine or art.
Everything in my house is going: My art supplies, furniture, clothes, props, a kitchen full of stuff in great condition (I don’t cook) and some outdoor furniture. Basically, open a cupboard, and if there is stuff in it, you can swap it for art or wine. At the end of it all, I’m hoping to plaster my walls with swapped art and have people around to stare at it while drinking swapped wine.
Why? Why not.
Date: Sunday October 5th
Location: 154 Albert Street, Brunswick
I’d also like to invite other people to bring their things along to swap for art or wine. Drop me a line if you’re interested. So far jemimalovesbigted will be joining me so better ask what wine she likes too!
midzing

Jo O'Brien
in reply to zomboy’s comment
meh, don’t really need it. It’s just stuff, and I hoard really really badly so getting rid of it all and starting again is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Sharon Anne Mau

DieselLaws

Melissa Kirkham

Bronwen Hyde
great idea. i’m moving house in late october though so i think adding to my already excessive collection of furniture, clothing, props and kitchen stuff might be a bad idea :P

MuscularTeeth
lol what a great idea.
zomboy
lol – this I understand. I have been going through a similar process, however I biffed a lot of out and passed some of it over to the salvos, I was no where near as creative as you on this one!
Vimm
make sure you dont get too drunk while deciding on the art to receive. why else do they always have wine at art exhibitions? more wine for more crap art. good luck very novel idea
Tania Rose
wow, you’ll get to be naked, hungry, and drunk, all in the name of art. And people say you’re eccentric…
Rita Iszlai
do you need my art??? I need your things…. :)
Kristina K

Michael Eyssens
I think this can go a loooong way jo, have you thought of advertising this elsewhere?
I am sure the 2 joke commerical current affair programs would love it!
Darren Stones
Surely you’re not going to exchange that itchy gold dress? That should be in the RedBubble Hall of Fame.
Danny
I’ll trade sjem for any old pot plants.
Carlos Teófilo
Ok. I know that you don’t like my art, and i agree with you. But i dont’ understand the same about the portuguese wine. Tell me about when you drink any good portuguese wine.
Jo O'Brien
in reply to Carlos Teófilo’s comment
I don’t know that I’ve ever had Portuguese wine
bellmusker
Does this include Sassy?
Jo O'Brien
in reply to bellmusker’s comment
awwww, Sassy is going to stay with me. But in all sincerity, you are named as her next of kin should anything ever happen to me and she needs a new home.
Carlos Teófilo
I think you haven’t. You remember that for sure. When you decide, look for DOURO region or ALENTEJO region. Is very knowed in all world.
amanda marx
love it . . . i’m so there Jo
see you on the 5th
Carlos Teófilo
If you don’t mind…
and
I can’t give you my art, who knows you accept “my” wine?
MuscularTeeth

;)
Carlos Teófilo
hehehe. No. Isn’t a war. Is simply pleasure of life. Only that.
Shelley Heath
Love this idea, if I were in Melbourne I would be there but alas not.
Faizan Qureshi
LOL… how cool is this idea?!
Sara Lamond
This is strange, and interesting, and very very brave…. :)
Sara Lamond
ps – I assume you’ll be hiding your camera gear???
Jo O'Brien
in reply to Sara Lamond’s comment
I have removed a car load of personal items that I would like to keep. But considering how much I own, that hardly makes a dent.
Stephen Colquitt
Extreme spring cleaning Jo.
LisaG
OooO this is very exciting….....tis hard for me to part with wine but this is an offer very hard to refuse….
JimFilmer
so let me get this straight – for a carton of wine or 2 (other than shiraz – which I would prefer to keep myself) I could almost get a household of “stuff” ... hmmm let me talk to my investment advisor on this one
Sara Lamond
Lisa – hint…. buy a case or two of wine cheap on grays online before you go shopping at Jo’s house.
Jo O'Brien
in reply to Sara Lamond’s comment
I’ll have my wine valuer at my side to help negotiate swaps ;)
Shona Baxter

Hien Nguyen

zacco
arty wino, hope someone gives you a crate of wine ,, atleast to sit on :@)
Jodi Webb
Ingenious Jo. I wish I had thought of that last weekend, then I could have plenty of wine to swap with you so I could replace all the stuff I got rid of!
May stop past with a few bottles of vino for you.
dimsim
can i swap you my house full of other people’s stuff for your idea? or something … !
PJ Ryan
how fabulous !!
Faith Hunter
hey Jo,
I’m a pino drinker from way back and know just the thing for you if you haven’t tried it already. The Meditarenean Super Store in Sydney Rd stock lots of italian wines from the Piedmont region made from Nebbiolo grapes…... very similar to Pinot. Very very nice. I’ll try and bring some along. Great idea!
Jo O'Brien
I’m actually starting to worry that I won’t have enough stuff to swap with all these offers of yummy wine! I’m happy for other nut jobs to join me if you have some things you’d be happy to swap for art or wine.
Anne Staub
Love your idea, have fun on the day :)
people/are/str...
ah !
so far from Israel !
Ekascam
Go girl! Sounds exciting, hope it all works out for such an adventureous person, cheers Ekascam!
Natalie Tyler
What an awesome idea … I assume you’ll be keeping your wine glasses and a hammer.
Leanna Lomanski
Dammit!!! Why couldn’t I live down under???
James Price
hehe – someone’s seen Sideways too many times… ;-p
Midori Furze
Coooooooooooool!!
Best wishes, Jo!!!
Lara Luz
I’m Portuguese….
I’ll tell you a secret about our wine.
Everything that’s exported is crap. The good stuff stays in the country and we tend to be pretty rude to tourists so they don’t always have the chance to taste the good stuff when they are over there.
We can be such bastards!
StacyLee
What a brilliant idea! Perhaps I’ll borrow it one day :) xoxo
berndt2
What a concept!!
Kym Breeze
can I swap my art for wine….really have too much stuff already….never enough wine though….lol
have fun with this Jo..xo
Nuh Sarche

The InnerNorth...
what kind of art supplies are you swapping for art oils or acrylic
Jo O'Brien
in reply to The InnerNortherns .’s comment
mostly collage stuff – papers, bits and pieces etc.
The InnerNorth...
hhmmmm is there lots[ collage stuff] and are you open art 3d [sculpture ] art or does it have to be wall art ?
Jo O'Brien
in reply to The InnerNortherns .’s comment
I don’t know what you consider as “lots” – basically I cleared out a couple of kitchen cupboards to start hoarding into and now they are full
...and I love all types of art.
Lloyd Harvey
Wow, brilliant idea… would be a bugger if you didn’t drink wine…
aeris
Great idea Jo! :D
bellmusker
I’m happy for other nut jobs to join me if you have some things you’d be happy to swap for art or wine
I’m in! I have several huge bags of clothes I’m williing to swap for Sauvignon Blanc or Semillon…..but if people are just bringing red wine then that’s fine too :-)
Paul Louis Vil...
So, how did it go Jo? :)
Jo O'Brien
in reply to Paul Louis Villani’s comment
Well I ended up with wine, art, and cash. It was so strange how I tried to give things away from free and people were so uncomfortable with that idea.
snakedog
Nobody want someone else’s stuff except at a 2nd store. One way to get rid of your own unwanted art is to have an ART SHOOTOUT. Invite everyone to this including all the other artists who have too much art stuff and let the people bid on it to keep it from being shot to pieces. Snakedog
