That is a amazing ability. Unfortunately we understand very well what is average and typical, but brilliance like this is very often misunderstood or even destroyed by our system that only deals with averages. It is wonderful that he has been able to reach adulthood with his brilliance intact.

thankyou for your comments. I found it interesting just watching his face as he was in the plane. imagine what was happening in his mind…this is powerful stuff. his parents must have had an amazing journey with him when he was a child….......yes indeterminacy .you are right/this is so so complex.

Our own daughter is mildly autistic, so I take an extra interest in Stephen Wiltshire. I have been following his career since he was a boy. I have one book and a video of him. I loved the TV programme that showed him being taken in a glass bottomed helicopter looking along the River Thames. When he returned to the studio they gave him drawing equipment and he accurately drew the entire length of the Thames with all the buildings on the banks of the river. The incredible thing is that he drew skyscrapers with the PRECISE number of windows in them (from memory) and yet he has almost no grasp of simple arithmetic, so how he did it is a mystery. Stephen is an incredibly gifted artist indeed.

thankyou for your bubblemail
so you have a certain understanding.
have read your note with interest…........sorry to say I had never heard of him before and am in compete awe. I have not seen the television program but from now on will be taking a keen interest in this amazing man. During my teaching career I stood with a young boy /and we overlooked a basketball court/instantly he said a number…...........I pondered this outburst and then counted….........the exact number of students actually standing on the court ......this really humbles me and makes me think/I know nothing of the human mind!
Thanks for telling me about the Thames
wonderful days with your daughter
will await the site you suggested
thankyou very much
