Nut

Nut

Nut had a special relationship with the sun and stars. She was thought to swallow the stars in the morning and give birth to the sun. During the day, the sun would travel across her body and in the evening, this would be swallowed as the stars issued forth from her womb. This image was likened to a sow swallowing and then giving birth to her piglets. In her form as a cow and as a woman she was often pictured with stars upon her body.

Painting with wax, inks, pigment, chalk and gold leaf

Very pretty colors! To me, this loks a great deal like a very tropical flower near the rim of a pond, but in the abstract.

    Sophie,
Given the extraordinary quality of your paintings, I wish I had the time to comment on each one. I choose this one to admire and favor in our group the healing journey. Your integration of color, light and amazing imagery, much “unseen” is a testament to your exceptional talent. The fact you are a scholar of mythology and pair stories of ancient figures adds poetic depth to your stunning visuals. Your vast knowledge informs and inspires us to learn more about the characters you have chosen. I have taken many photos of Isis, the great goddess and have read about her fascinating life and the dynamic relationships with Horus and her family. I want to review her story and learn more about Nut, the central character in this piece. The great power of your work is a great testament to your skill as a mentor who encourages the love of learning. This is an outstanding piece, one of many in your exceptionally rich portfolio.
