Let Sleeping Ducks Lie

I had never seen ducks sleep before and hadn’t given it much thought. These ducks were in Larspur, Colorado in a very rural area. Perhaps they sleep during the day because the predators come out at night.

My favourite place locally is the Boating Lake at Cleethorpes (Lincolnshire). The Lake and surrounding greens are usually covered with Geese, Ducks etc all year round. So this is a familiar scene… except for the pebbles. These ducks are well camoflaged. Did you know they usually sleep with their eyes open….?
We watched a small group sleeping among weeds on the lakeside; a couple with a dog approached. One by one, in perfect synchronisation, thy got up and gently slipped into the safety of the water. Then, as the danger passed – the dog wasn’t interested! – they each came up, again, as if they had been perfectly choreographed, out of the water and took up the exact same positions. The sort of occasion when you need a video camera!
    X Love and prayers :)

now this is really awesome…they are so cute and peaceful but it looks like they have an eye on you – or maybe they just have to sleep with ‘an eye out’ :) since I collect rocks – I love the different beautiful colors of those rocks – very pretty…
