I wonder if that cat died and went to kitty heaven. I hope my cat never sees this, she would be SO jealous! LOL
Very cute image, great job!
Jamaboop, 12 months ago
Oh my he is certainly a scruffy looking little fella isn’t he? He must be no threat to the birds- they seem trusting enough to turn their backs on him and go about the business of finding food. They must be friends? I really love the bird in the air!! That is lovely!!

Wonderful image. What a great story telling image. interesting to see how the radius around the cat is clear from pigeons. even a one eye cat can be dangerous. Excellent capture of the bird in flight. An instant fave for me.

BEAUTIFUL SHOT
Coralie Plozza, 12 months ago
amazing shot… to get the one bird with such a stunning wing span contrast against the mangy cat is brilliant..well done
Dean Warwick, 12 months ago
I think a bird may have pecked his eye out in the past. It looks like he may be a little more respectful towards them now. Great Shot.
klezedawg, 12 months ago
he could have kept his eye if he found a better group of friends

This is an incredible shot… exceptional composition and the tones are wonderful.
Nancy Fischer, 8 months ago
I’m hoping that the fact that he only has one eye has nothing to do with the other being pecked out! Thought this was PR for a minute with all of those pigeons. Love the description you’ve given this shot. Sweet.
Von McKnelly in reply to Nancy Fischer’s comment, 8 months ago
I think Jack ruled this little park and his winged buddies were his subjects.
What happened to Jack’s eye is a mystery.
Sophie Shapiro, 8 months ago
I really like this photograph…there’s an irony to it, that relates to all our lives! Wonderful!S

great capture Von !
Rebecca MacNau..., 3 months ago
This is a stunning masterpiece of photographic prowess. It is perfect in every way. THAT you caught the one-eyed bandit is utterly astonishing, and then, the birds, AND the composition? The cat’s expression, that bird, wings spread like an avenging angel, in flight, to save his kind???
THIS IS AMONG THE FINEST IMAGES I HAVE EVER SEEN. AND THAT’S AFTER YEARS OF COLLEGE DEGREES AND OTHER MEANINGLESS PURSUITS! All made worth it, at this moment, as I view THIS piece, and sit, in stunned silence.
THIS IS PHOTOGRAPHY.

Always did love this one! Jack looks quite perplexed yet intriqued lol. Perhaps he was either in his glory with all those birds or felt alittle unsure on how he should get out of the situation lol.
Lucindawind, 3 months ago

Amanda Hammock, 3 months ago
What a brilliant capture of ordinary life, being extra ordinary.
I think that pigeon is thinking, “Yes! That guy has him distracted, now I can poop on his head! Buwahaha”
Right then…
LoisBryan, 3 months ago
Oh, Von … I’m laughing!!! He’s sitting among the birds, quietly, contemplating his lovely brunch and hoping you don’t scare it all away!!!! But what a FABULOUS candid!!! Just read Amanda’s comment … and laughing even harder now!!!! Darling, darling image!!!!! Well found and well shot!!!!!

I think that you may have interupted a secret political meeting.
You know, members of the mafia come in all shapes … and all sizes.
I can imagine Jack the Cat saying:
“Hey, I thought I said no cameras … Vinnie (the flying bird) get that guy out of here.”
Fantastic job.
But, I do fear for your safety.
Scott Ruhs, 3 months ago
The cat doesn’t happen to belong to “Billy Bob” does it? lol Looks just like him.

Von McKnelly in reply to Irene Burdell’s comment, 2 months ago

Dawne Olson, 2 months ago
I’ve never seen anything quite like this!! Outstanding work executed flawlessly in a momentuous flurry of action!
I DO believe Jack’s one good eye is fixed on the white bird in flight. That
- and everything else about this image -make it a real masterpiece.Von McKnelly in reply to Dawne Olson’s comment, 2 months ago
You’ve made my day Dawne….I wish I knew what ever happened to old Jack.
John Hooton, 2 months ago
Good old Jack. The cat amongst the pigeons spoilt for choice! A great story picture. :-))
Liv Stockley, 2 months ago
LOL…. Sure he knows he’s a cat and supposed to chase/eat birds….that’s why we don’t have cats, according to my husband they kill birds, well don’t tell this one, quite like the idea of a bird -friendly cat.
Von McKnelly in reply to Liv Stockley’s comment, 2 months ago
I have 3 cats and they are not even interested in the hundreds of birds that live in my backyard…grasshoppers and frogs are another thing all together.
Carrie Gardner, 2 months ago
fantastic shot…love it..
the look on the cats face….the pigeon in flight….full of humour really good :D

In Menorca and Andalucia we saw loads of stray cats, but last month in Barcelona I can’t remember seeing any … loads of dogs though … ah … there’s my answer :) I don’t think the birds are afraid of this little guy :)
