Lamia's Cave
Lamia’s Cave
The Lamia is one of the more obscure Greek myths and is yet another example of the malicious interference of “The Gods”. This image was in part based on a small mention of the Lamia (Lamiai plural) on the 1974 Genesis album: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (CD Disc 2, track 5).

Medium: Airbrush and Acrylics on Canson Airbrush Board
Size: 85cm x 45cm (34” x 18”)
Private Collection
Artist: Peter Nowak (Wizard)
This was actually my very first large format airbrushing and is the first of two related paintings. The second was later rendered on a motorcycle tank (below). However the completed working drawing (further below) of Lamia #2 was done after the bike tank and still awaits final translation into a third full-size work. It will now most likely be rendered digitally.

I often watch the chopper programme – just to see the designs they airbrush onto their tanks – would be cool to try that one day, does it take ages? and is the learning curve quite steep? You must still do this …surely!

It can be very time consuming, but that really depends on how finicky you get. The learning curve is really about the media (automotive paint) ... it does not behave the same way as watercolour and acrylic. This of course assumes one has a grasp of airbrushing basics.
