    by Carrie Glenn

    US$3.99–US$106.40

Airbrushed and mixed media on canvas Excerpt from “Abigail’s Friends” written by Anthony Hedger illustrated by Carrie Glenn. ...“I think we better go back now.” She whispered to the butterfly. / “Why?” The butterfly asked. “It’s only my friends and they are having a special tea party just for you, come on and I’ll introduce you to them.” / “Er, ok, if you think I’ll be alright?” / “Of course you’ll be alright.” The red fox called to her. “Come on your tea is getting cold.” / So for the next two hours Abigail sat with Mr. Fox, Mr. Bear, Miss Rabbit, Ms. Blue bird and a hundred different butterflies and had tea and cake and chatted as though she had known them all her life. She gave each of them a big, big hug after and thanked them for making this the best birthday ever. / “Er, just before I do go home, how did you know it was my birthday anyway?” / “You could say a little bird told us.” The bear said gently and they all began to laugh…read more You can contact Carrie at: carrie@carrieglennstudios.com and please visit Carrie Glenn Studios /

  • The little Princess
    by micmac

    US$3.42–US$91.20

We arrived late at night,my eyes were shining with admiration when I first saw that amazing manoir .It was just like in my dreams and I would spend a whole night in one of those beautiful bedrooms. The little boudoir looked so cosy with all the big sofas and the old imported carpet from the orient .I just felt like sitting down comfortably and relax for a few minutes.I closed my sleepy eyes just a second and open it as quickly, surprised by a cold draft on my neck…she was there with that half smile, sitting so straight on a little chair,an adorable girl with her funny crown and a mirror in her hands ....My husband said that I fell asleep and had a dream but I didn’t .I hope that you believe me …. / For my friend Geraint…. /

Ok, ok first of all, everyone breath. Cool. Now let’s check. Melbourne experiencing four seasons in one day? Check. Shane Warne caught out again? Check. Running my own business continuing to be challenging? Check. Darren Stones steering the good ship RB around icebergs with a confident if not somewhat alcohol induced flourish? Check. Some people on some distant journal thread arguing about freedom of speech as if RB is the most vital instrument for world peace on earth. Whilst slandering, vilifying and taunting each other with racial, overworked cliches from behind psuedo names? Check. So nothing new or unusual about today then? Un check. What the… Check this… Today in seperate orders people have bought… 1 canvas print of shoe woman plus 20 cards of shoe woman 150 cards of mother & child 25 cards of Possibility II 25 cards of the congo skipping kids & a further 26 of these 20 cards of this beauty 5 cards of these guys 5 cards of these little ones 2 cards of this chap 2 cards of this dude 2 cards of this princess 5 cards of this piece of possibility and 2 cards of this beautiful, precious boy I don’t know anything much about freedom of speech, flags, philosophy or anything like the stuff that’s been going on here this week. But I’ll tell you all ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING. These purchases will save lives. These people live on less than a dollar a day. They live in slums, gutters and sheds made of flattened alluminium cans. The love, they laugh, they dream – they dodge bullets, they run as fast as they can from rapists usually unsuccessfully, they starve and they cry. Every cent of revenue goes to them and the brave souls who live in a war zone to help them. They couldn’t give a rats about flags, and virtual slanging matches. They live on the real edge. I didn’t cry once in Africa. Right now I am sitting here drowning in tears. Maybe change is possible? Even the tiniest bit?? Thanks RB – thanks whoever. EDIT: SEEMS LIKE A GOOD TIME TO DEBUT THIS FELLA. Oh and thinking of turning some of these into Chrissy cards if anyone’s interested.

  • ‘Asia Series’ card by Karin Taylor This piece is imbued with a lot of heartfelt meaning. / Here is a painting I did in response to the story of Sadako. One day my daughter Sarah bought home a little sheet of paper with the story of Sadako on it and I was deeply moved by the tragic story of her life. You can read all about Sadako by googling her name or the story about the Thousand Paper Cranes. Just briefly though, Sadako was just a little baby when the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, and by the age of 11 years she had lost her fight for life due to leukaemia, as a result of the radiation from the bomb. Sadako tried hard to be cheerful and dreamed of living a long life. A little friend of hers suggested that she make 1000 paper cranes, because as legend had it, doing this could make your dreams come true. Unfortunately, Sadako died, she was only able to make 600 cranes (please see Mui-Ling Teh’s comment below for more information), but her courageous effort and fighting spirit lives on in the hearts of everyone everywhere who hears her story of hope, faith and determination. / www.sadako.org/sadakostory.htm This picture is all about Sadako being taken up into heaven at the moment of her passing from this life to the next. There are a few symbols in this painting that represent different things. The camouflage on her dress represents wartime. The wings indicate Sadako has a heavenly body now, and you can see Sadako is actually affixing them to herself as she accepts her fate. The magic carpet is taking her up to heaven. The little doll is her companion in this life and the next, similar idea to the ancient egyptians who placed belongings of the deceased with them inside the pyramids for comfort in the next life, the circles in the background represent glowing light emanating from the black stars in the sky, guiding her way to her new destination. There is an air of both sadness and triumph…leaving this world is sad, but entering the next healed and whole is triumphant. This painting won a prize at an exhibition in Tweed Heads last year.

  • The Lost Child
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

She could be your sister, your mother or your daughter. / For whatever reason, she puts her life on the line every day / just to make it through the night and see another morning. She is not a hero and does not even claim to be. / For reasons known only to her, she has somehow lost her way / as she stands in the light of street lamp from dusk until the dawning. She was once a little girl born with big eyes and rosebud lips. / For her something went wrong and only she can say / why she left her home and ended up here as fodder for men’s pawing. She may have been molested by a family member or a friend. / For she trusted in this person who caused her to have to run away / into the night and into a life of mere existence her spirit draining. She may not have chosen this life, it might have been chosen for her. / For she may have been shopping somewhere with someone one day / and been carried away by abductors while everyone ignored her screaming. She could have been anything her heart desired if she had had a chance. / For her that never happened and for that mischance she will ever have to pay / by selling herself for an hour or more to whomever she finds willing. She is the lost child, the one you look down on when you pass her on the street. / For she may be one to fear or maybe not when you pass her on the way / but maybe you can say a prayer for her that she may make it ‘til the morning. She might be the one to escape from a dead soul and horrible destiny. / For this child might be touched by The Master’s hand in some way, / a forgiven soul, one who’s spirit The Saviour is calling. / ______ There is nothing glamourous about this lifestyle. The intent here is not to glorify this lifestyle, but to raise public awareness so that we may be able to protect our women from abduction, abuse or whatever it is that causes them to end up here…as the lost child. / _______ / Violence against female prostitutes: Female prostitutes are at risk of violent crime, as well as possibly at higher risk of occupational mortality than any other group of women ever studied. For example, the homicide rate for female prostitutes was estimated to be 204 per 100,000 (Potterat et al, 2004), which is considerably higher than that for the next riskiest occupations in the United States during a similar period (4 per 100,000 for female liquor store workers and 29 per 100,000 for male taxicab drivers) (Castillo et al., 1994). However, there are substantial differences in rates of victimization between street prostitutes and indoor prostitutes who work as escorts, call girls, or in brothels and massage parlors (Weitzer 2000, 2005). Perpetrators include violent clients, pimps, and corrupt law-enforcement officers. Prostitutes (particularly those engaging in street prostitution are also sometimes the targets of serial killers, who may consider them easy targets, or use the religious and social stigma associated with prostitutes as justification for their murder. Being criminals in most jurisdictions, prostitutes are less likely than the law-abiding to be looked for by police if they disappear, making them favored targets of predators. Human trafficking and sexual slavery: It has been suggested that human trafficking is the fastest growing form of modern day slavery and is the third largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world. Due to the illegal and underground nature of sex trafficking, the exact extent of women and children forced into prostitution is unknown. Children are sold into the global sex trade every year. Often they are kidnapped or orphaned, and sometimes they are actually sold by their own families. According to the International Labour Organization, the problem is especially alarming in Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Cambodia, Nepal and India. Poverty, social exclusion and war are at the heart of human trafficking. Some women are hoodwinked into believing promises of a better life, sometimes by people who are known and trusted to them. Traffickers may own legitimate travel agencies, modeling agencies and employment offices in order to gain women’s trust. Others are simply kidnapped. Once overseas it is common for their passport to be confiscated by the trafficker and to be warned of the consequences should they attempt to escape, including beatings, rape, threats of violence against their family and death threats. It is common, particularly in Eastern Europe, that should they manage to return to their families they will only be trafficked once again. • Mid Day
    by Karsten Stier

    US$3.42–US$91.20

In this painting I have endeavored to reduce the landscape down to its absolute minimum, focusing purely on the line of salt-bush on the horizon, with one solitary bird hovering in the air, to give the impression of the raw empty heat of a mid day summer where nothing stirs until l the cool of the evening. . . • Deer One
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

I grew up on a ranch in Southern California. When I was a little girl we found a baby deer beside the road. It had fallen off a cliff and its mother was no where to be found. We brought him home and nurtured him. We named him “Bucky” and he grew up to be a real beauty. This image is my little brother Richard feeding Bucky. My sister Carol is on the left and I am in the middle. When Bucky grew up, he dissapeared for a couple of days and we feared the worst. However, we cried so much and prayed…and God answered our prayers. Bucky was returned safely home to us. We never knew who took him or why, but we were glad to get him back. We hated to give him to the wild-life park at Hart Park outside Bakersfield, and I can still see him running back and forth inside the fence cying loudly for us to come back and get him. It broke our hearts, but he needed to be with his own…plus the law in California will not allow you to keep a wild deer (even though we had tamed him). I treated the original black & white image with hdr, PS Fractalius and Orton. I love the finished work. I hope you enjoy it. Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain. • Late Night Reading
    by Ine Spee

    US$3.42–US$91.20

I remember as a kid I loved to secretly read at night, even though I was supposed to be sleeping. And as we all know, children have a very big imagination… =) A pretty simple drawing; I hope the background texture shows up, because if your monitor is set darker than mine, you might not see it at all. Did this drawing in Illustrator and Photoshop. Hope you like it! =D Also turned this into a t-shirt design.

  • Blue Moon
    by cheerishables

    US$3.99–US$106.40

I love Fantasy art featuring fairies resting on a crescent moon. This is my newest work. I created it yesterday. The fairy is the same model as the one in “Shooting Stars,” except a couple years later. I wanted to convey a mysterious mood, featuring a lovely fairy resting a top of her moon, as if it were a throne for a fairy princess. She awakens only at night to watch over the world while in our slumber.
