Model – Meluxine The height of winter, she’s laying on wet frozen ground, in a vintage dress and my ugg boots, full to the brim with Hungry Jacks, watching me dance like a crazy person with a head cold around her when suddenly the sun breaks through right at the perfect moment, and she manages to pull of that look like it’s as easy as microwave popcorn. / This girl rocks. Canon 40D + available [overcast] light. / The film versions are pretty cool too. Copyright 2008 Harmony Nicholas

Taken a few miles east of Leicester, near Allexton. Its that time in the UK, just before the wheat gets harvested – heavy heads beginning to nod gently under the weight of the grain, and the weather unable to decide whether it is summer or not, threatening to flatten the crop, just it is ready. Leicestershire is full of distant horizons like this, and the Barley is all but in now, much of the ground already having been put under the plough in readiness for the next crop.

The warm glow of the setting sun is reflected on the landward side of the Point Lonsdale lighthouse, on a cold, windy Winter’s afternoon. Two different shots of the same lighthouse at either ends of the day.

This is another case of right place right time. I normally check the tides to see where they will be at sunrise and sunset, but as my fiance and I were staying near Geelong for a few days, I didn’t bring a tide chart with me and so I had to take guesses as to where it would likely be. Anyway, at the last minute I decided to head down to Point Lonsdale to take a few shots of the lighthouse and to my delight the tide was out and slowly creeping in. By the time I finished shooting, I was walking through water to get back to the shore.

Model – the utterly lovely Lauren Vickers Note to self: If shooting in the hotel who’s namesake is a blonde bimbo ex-con heiress, barricade the door to the Spa – that way, management types won’t barge in and interrupt you by kicking you out halfway through a shoot before you get the shot you actually want. David was playing the part of a young gravedigger in director Conor McMahons rural horror film “Dead Meat” where mad cow disease has infected the local population turning them into, well you guessed it flesh eating Zombies. This was Day 1 for David and he was just dressed up in rural garb about to fling himself in front of a car when I took this portrait of him in the fairy woods of Leitrim. / I love this portrait as it is timeless or more to the point it harks back to the Golden age of movie heroes and stars and David is one here.

A photo of Portland Head Lighthouse, Portland Maine. It was a dreary, overcast day, which made for an interesting sky.

After over 3 weeks without taking any new pictures, I am messing with the old stuff! This is a shot that I took over the summer of my husband. I enhanced the eye’s, but they are naturally VERY blue…. they pierce my heart! (in a very good way) Copyright 2008 Julie – Julie Alexander. All Rights Reserved. Unauthorized use prohibited.
