View looking up the stairwell of the Point Hicks lighthouse, Croajingolong National Park. This lighthouse is immaculate and has been well looked after. It was named after Leutenant HICKS who was the first person to site this part of Australia during Captain Cooks voyage. They continued up the East coast of Australia eventually landing at the town called Seventeen Seventy. This Kookaburra would come and visit our campsite every night at dinner time. Two days later he swept in from the trees and nearly snatched the roast chicken (yes roast chicken that had been cooked in the camp oven !) from my mouth. His wings swept my face during his attempt. Quite cheeky and unafraid of us. Please dont feed the wildlife! Thanks for looking:)) Featured in Australian Wildlife :)))

The Lizard point is at the tip of the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall and is the most Southern point on the UK mainland, there are many small villages nearby but Helston is the nearest town, some 11 miles North. A lighthouse has guarded shipping from the treacherous Man O War Rocks and force of the Atlantic waves since 1751, in 1721 the Royal Anne Galley was wrecked on the rocks here and 15 of the crew were lost, prompting the building of the first lighthouse. They were buried in a mass grave at nearby Pistol Meadow. Below the lighthouse is the now redundant old lifeboat station which has been replaced by a new one a few miles away. I took this image in Midsummer when the pink seathrift flowers adorn the rugged coastline and even on a fine day like this, the awesome power of the Ocean is so evident. This is another case of right place right time. I normally check the tides to see where they will be at sunrise and sunset, but as my fiance and I were staying near Geelong for a few days, I didn’t bring a tide chart with me and so I had to take guesses as to where it would likely be. Anyway, at the last minute I decided to head down to Point Lonsdale to take a few shots of the lighthouse and to my delight the tide was out and slowly creeping in. By the time I finished shooting, I was walking through water to get back to the shore.

The warm glow of the setting sun is reflected on the landward side of the Point Lonsdale lighthouse, on a cold, windy Winter’s afternoon. Two different shots of the same lighthouse at either ends of the day.
