The cabin of Carter Shields Place makes a beautiful autumn setting as it may of been around 1830 or 40’s.It’s location is on the Cades Cove Loop Road in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. When people decide they no longer need something, they discard it. Sometimes the discards have a life of their own or seem to anyway. I came across a wasteland in San Bernardino where the no longer wanted trees, pipes and other unwanted items were tossed and left behind. It seemed almost as if there there was life among the discards. This twisted pipe seemed to be in dispute with the log that hovered over it. That’s me, I see life in eveything. It looks like prehistoric creatures, maybe dinasaurs and dragons. All content & images are © amari, amarica. A lazy moment in the life of a polar bear at at the Oregon Zoo. I am going to Churchill next year to see these beautiful animals out on the tundra. There has been a 13% decrease in the Polar bears in that area due to global warming. There is only a short time during the year for viewing these bears, as once the ice solidifies, they migrate in search of food. During the several month hibernation, they have had no food. They replenish their bodies off of seals and other sea going mammals. The polar bears are considered the most dangerous of all bears. While viewing them in their natural habitat, you never leave the gigantic dune buggies. For several days and nights, you sleep, eat and view the wildlife from the dune buggies and from the viewing decks. The bears are considered to be too dangerous to allow people to step down on the tundra (other than the scientists).

Just delving back a few years to a picture from Shap Abbey in Westmorland (now Cumbria) and on the eastern borders of the Lake District. More details of this wonderful abbey will follow if and when I get round to putting up some pictures! / However, as is so often the case with our treasured abbeys, the location of Shap Abbey is such a potent part of the whole experience. As you stroll towards the west tower you pass by the River Lowther with the blur of a dipper coming to rest on a stone to “dip” up and down before plunging into the rushing waters, whilst above, on the bank, trees, gnarled with age and battered by the harsh climate cling on to life for hundreds of years watching patiently as the abbey slowly returns to Nature’s grasp. / Thanks for looking, / Richard

I enjoy photographing the foggy autumn mornings. I also dabble some with my family’s genealogy. I find it interesting to see how my forefathers lived. This Photo is a combination of the two interests. I think the times past is important and should be preserved. / This is Mingus Mill located on the North Carolina side of the Great Smoky Mountain N.P.It is one of the many historic structures preserved by the Park Services. It was built in 1886.It is one of two operating grist mills in the GSMNP.These mills were a vital part of the communities of that era.The people of that era could grow there grain but still needed to have it ground so they could have there day to day bread. / I feel it’s important to call peoples attention to structures like this. They may then have a better understanding of those wishing support to help preserve them.So our grandchildren can see the struggles of how we became a nation

I photographed this majestic blue heron in Point Lobos State Reserve in CA.
