  • I’m preparing a new body of work for exhibiton later in the year and am working out ways to present these images. Yesterday I posted a single image muted landscpe #2 in order to invite some responses to the way I preparing the indivdual images with a very muted colouring and now today I’m posting a pair of images in a way that will replicate the way I want to present them. I’m thinking that I would do either three or four pairs of linked images individually framed but hung together in a series of pairs so that they will sort of look like this one….... Each photograph will be printed at around 20×24 inches and then with the matting and framing I estimate each pair will need about 2 metres of wall space for hanging. Let me know what you all think while I’m open to suggestions with this body of work and I’ll listen to all suggestions….... ta muchly in advance…...

  • In modern English, the term ghost ship has come to stand for at least one of three separate definitions, all of which involving unexplained circumstances. Historically, the term has been used to refer to reported sightings of apparitions over water that have appeared in the form of maritime sailing ships, often after having previously been known to have sunk, or to derelict vessels found floating with no crew. In fiction, ghost ships have often been vessels crewed by some manner of spectral beings. Full Moons are traditionally associated with temporal insomnia, insanity and various magical phenomena such as lycanthropy. Psychologists, however, have found that there is no strong evidence for effects on human behavior around the time of a full moon. They find that studies are generally not consistent, with some showing a positive effect and others showing a negative effect (hence the terms lunacy and lunatic) Many neopagans hold a monthly ritual called an Esbat at each full moon, while some people practicing traditional Chinese religions prepare their ritual offerings to their ancestors and deities on every full and new moon

  • Arrested Expansion is a symbolic scene that depicts a combination of self-excluding objects that might not be present in real life. Objects in the secluded room make the viewer feel claustrophobic and unreal, which might be compared to someone’s mental delusion based on a medical condition. Image is a mixture of photo stock with some 2D vectors, and 3D objects. Photoshop, 3ds max, Illustrator. / The most common cause of cardiac arrest is a heart rhythm disorder or arrhythmia called ventricular fibrillation (VF). The heart has a built-in electrical system. When a contraction happens, blood is pumped. But in ventricular fibrillation, the electrical signals that control the pumping of the heart suddenly become rapid and chaotic. As a result, the lower chambers of the heart, the ventricles, begin to quiver (fibrillate) instead of contract, and they can no longer pump blood from the heart to the rest of the body. If blood cannot flow to the brain, it becomes starved of oxygen, and the person loses consciousness in seconds. • The Flat Earth Society / “The facts are simple,” says Charles K. Johnson, president of the International Flat Earth Research Society. “The earth is flat.” He believes that the main purpose of the space program is to prop up a dying myth—the myth that the earth is a globe. “Nobody knows anything about the true shape of the world,” he contends. The sun and moon, in the Johnson version, are only about 32 miles in diameter. They circle above the earth in the vicinity of the equator, and their apparent rising and setting are tricks of perspective, like railroad tracks that appear to meet in the distance. The moon shines by its own light and is not eclipsed by the earth. Rather, lunar eclipses are caused by an unseen dark body occasionally passing in front of the moon. Johnson’s beliefs are firmly grounded in the Bible.

  • Mindscape is a mental or psychological scene or area of the imagination. The word is most suitable to the filed of psychology. Mindscape has two words combined in such a way that the meaning goes beyond it – Mind and Escape… It can be translated as a Mind that wants to escape or a Mind that is in route of escaping. This adventure can be in the sense of reality or in spiritual world. / Depression sufferers escape from facts, hallucinates escape from reality, psychotics and neurotics escape from many other forms of life. We usually state that they are people who require help so that they can live an ordinary life. But who is to decide what is normal and what is abnormal? If ones can see the other side of horizon, according to them they deem the facts strongly that they hold about life, oneself and reality. They believe they are the right ones who are amongst wrong people. Are you one of them? I tend to assume we all are, one way or another. • Just lately I’ve been having a nice time posting all sorts of random things for all sorts of distracted reasons and thats been lots of fun. But time to run another series across the screens of bubbleland…..and that can only mean Infrared images are coming up. I love the dark and mysterious light that can be inticed into being with B/W infrared film…. and yes all my IR work is done the old fashioned way with film….. Kodak High Speed Infrared film to be exact. This particular series was shot in Sydney some years ago at the old Reschs site on Lachlan Street as it was being demolished to make way for a new housing development in the inner city. I was fascinated with the destruction of all the old buildings and how the hidden backs of structures of were revealed by the rolling waves of demolition. This urban landscape of ruined reality and brand new dreams set in the piles of rubble took on a profoundly mysterious atmosphere and became a landscape setting suitable for colonization by the imagination…...hence the title of the series…..Landscape for Orson Wells….. this one is the first and its the very corner of a building that no longer exists…. except in this photo…..... so it can now be a building anywere you fancy it to be and it can signify any thing that you the viewer would like it to mean…....

  • muted landscape #2
    by Juilee Pryor

    US$6.65–US$152.00

This image is the prototype for a new body of work I’m developing for exhibition at Parliment House later in the year. The thing is that the wall where the works will be hung are dark port wine coloured. So I’m thinking the black and white prints in a white matt and black frame are going to look really sombre against the background so I’ve been fooling about with a little colour with these dreamy Infrared landscapes. There will be maybe six or even eight of them all about 20×24 inches then the framing so they will be a decent size when finished….. anyway my question is…. does this muted colour add to the image or detract? should I just stick to the B/W?

  • Another ratty Infrared photo shot with a battered old Olympus OM1 while zooming around in a little zodiac in the frozen oceans of the Antarctic Peninsular. Another mysterious something captured in the clear blue sky and found later on the negative. Not going to put in the big rant this time. But I do believe that there are signs of the gods all around us should we choose to just open ourselves to them. Could this be one of them? Who knows but its certinally a strange thing to find hovering about in the sky and I for one am open to alternative explainations of what it may be or might symbolize….....:)

  • Ok chaps this image is a deviation from the IR images I’m trying to put up but….. not being one to back away from a challege …....:) / This was shot while flying over Antarctica one NYE a long time ago…. 1999 to be exact and its a very poor quality shot having had no love and having langished at the bottom of a very large box of similarly unloved negatives for nearly a decade but I’m not putting it up for its beauty but rather to help fill in gaps with two other IR shots I’ve recently posted. These shots Midnight over Antarctica and Zues over Antarctica Both these IR shots are somewhat of a mystery to me…. well Zeus over Antarctica certainly is… I just can’t quite work it out. Anyway some fella’s who shan’t be named don’t think I wouldn’t know a coronal arc from my backside so here you go fella’s. This shot was taken maybe a minute before I took the IR shots and bearing in mind that I am not an expert on atmospheric phenomena but rather an artist facinated by the odd and occasionally divinely inspiring play of light that turns up in my images …. particually when I use Infrared film…..I’m going to maintain that this is a circle not a parabolic arc and its a coronal arc around the sun…. which the plane I’m in is about to fly through…. But I’ll take feedback for sure…. and sorry again about the poor state of the image…. with more time it would be sparkly but I want to get this up….... cheers chaps…...:)

    by Mark Wilson

    US$3.83–US$87.40

The Hurlers is the name of a group of three stone circles on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, England. Legend has it that each of the standing stones was once a man, petrified for eternity for playing the Celtic game of hurling on the sabbath!

“Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life.” – Rachel Carson This is a photograph from a 1991 trip to Arizona, camping out above the donkey-run town of Oatman. Played with in Photoshop7. Been photographing old photos pre-digital…memories that make me smile ;) / /

  • The next in my ‘taking me home’ series of Infrared photographs taken while on a journey to Antarctica. One of the charactaristics of IR film is that sometimes, just sometimes it will capture something that just can’t be seen by the naked eye. It is this quality that I so love it for. It lets me think I can peer beyond the veil so to speak. To record things that really shouldn’t perhaps be visible to us mere mortals. These scribbles in the sky over the fantastically etched top of a little iceberg is one of those photo’s. Apart from minor cleaning up in PS this image is as it is on the negative. And the sky was perfectly clear and bright blue with not a cloud in sight. My particular research area has to do with Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his doomed 2nd expeditition to the South Pole in the early 19th C. On the occasion of the Midwinter Dinner at the base camp in1911 there was an extraordinary Auroral display which all the men went outside to watch and which moved Scott immensely. I am going to put in some lines from his journal from that occasion and it is these words of Scott’s that for me contexulize this little photograph of mine: “There is infinite suggestion in this phenomenon, and in that lies its charm; the suggestion of life, form, colour, and movement never less that evanescent, mysterious – no reality. It is the language of mystic signs and portents- the inspiration of the gods-wholly spiritual – divine signalling. Might not the inhabitants of some other world (Mars) controlling mighty forces thus surround our globe with fiery symbols, a golden writing which we have not the key to decipher?” Who is man and what his place, / Anxious asks the heart perplex, / In the recklessness of space, / Worlds with worlds thus intermixt, / What is he, this atom creature, / In the infinitude of nature?*

  • This is my last big/little image upload of Infrared landscapes from the daniland series of photographs. This mysterious little scene was shot very early one morning before the heavy enveloping fog had been burnt off by the approaching heat of the day. The fog has shrouded these little trees so densely that if seems like a magical and mysterious scene from a sci-fi movie shot somewhere on an another planet. Walking through the heavy fog in this beautiful heavily forested area is certainly an amazing and magical experince and this particular photo comes as close the the reality of how that feels.

  • This image is the last of my uploads from my Neverland Collection of Infrared landscape photographs. This radient cloud in a clear blue (ok it looks black but that’s just the IR) sky is the ultimate statement that I can make about what it is I find so compelling about light in all its forms. And that is that light is the very basis of our perception of the world and all that is contained within it. That light, how ever you interpret the word, is the very essence of our lives and that when the land is devoid of all but light, that what remains is powerful and profound. This then is the song I sing back to the heavens that made me what I am. Human and fallible. But not without sight in a dark world that tests the spirit every day. My song, like my life, is in my pictures and this one is for you…. and you …. and for you. This photograph was shot with Kodak Highspeed Infrared film and processed in D-76. It was then scanned as a tiff file at 3600dpi and converted to a Jpeg in Photoshop. It has had some very minor adjustments made to it in regard to contrast adjustments but apart from that it is exactly as it appears on the negative.

  • Well time to post a very mysterious image that I took just over nine years ago while on a NYE flight over Antarctica. The strangeness of this shot has facinated me ever since I shot it. Its the very next shot to Midnight over Antarctica and was taken possibly less than a minute after that shot… probably less. This flight was plauged by very heavy cloud cover and the plane had to turn swing about a bit in order to find some good viewing for the passengers. In the image you can clearly see that the plane has turning into a corona which was circling the sun, the edge of which is clearly visable as the arc in the centre of the image. To the very right is the effects of lens flare shown by the distictive hexagonal shapes within the corona. At the bottom is the tops of the dense cloud cover we were flying over and above that that the stirated bands of the atmosphere streching up to the very heavens above…... but what the hell is happening on the upper left of the image? What is that in the clear blue brightly lit sky. Because I just can’t quite figure it out. It looks to me like an ancient crowned god in the sky holding up the very corona as we innocent revellers flew through it. It’s not lens flare and its not a reflection in the window and we are above the clouds and a very high altitude…... its a mystery to me and I can live with that….. its had a profound effect on my trajectory as an artist and I can live with that as well. Sometimes the big questions come to use from the sides of our consciousness and this was one of them. There is more to this story but I’m going to post this and then continue my tale of my journey towards the heart of the light in Antarctica as a journal entry. I would really really like to hear what you viewers make of this image. The poets and the cynics and the scientists amongst us are all welcome to give me some opinions…. I am open to all suggested explainations… Techically this was shot with Kodak Highspeed Infrared Film then procesed in D-76. The negative was scanned at 3600dpi as a tiff file and then resized and converted to a jpeg in Photoshop. And that is all. No twiddly or tweaking. What you see is what is on the negative…..

  • This is the next image in my series of uploads from the Neverland Collection of Infrared landscape photographs. I was walking around Sydney Park one morning after some earlier rumbling electical storm type activity in the skys and as I strolled up a small low hill, I took a series of shots of this curious little bit of light. It was not static and seemed to dance and move and change shape as I moved towards it. I got about three shots of it in a row and then finally it formed itself into a largish circular shape and then disappeared as quickly and quietly as it had appeared. I have no idea what it actually is or how it manifested before me but the magical and mysterious quality of this little dancing light has fascinated me ever since. The conjunction of light and the landscape in these Neverland photographs allude to the conjunction between the literal and the metaphoric. These photographs are poetic representation of another world just out of sight. There is a sense of the spritiual landscape that exists within and beyond the physical landscape within them that refers to my understanding that the land devoid of all but light being like poetry and presenting itself as exquisitely coherent and powerful and mysterious.
