Okay…. My kids made me do it!!! They found this snail in the garden and insisted that I photograph it so here’s the result.

Sitting on the tumbled trunk of a tree long dead, smooth from the power of storms and rubbing against the ocean floor, you sift and sort, selecting and choosing, the perfect shell, the one with the best markings, the most beautiful colours and natural shine, but there’s so many, so hard to choose, to discriminate between them, segregating them, making piles, discarding imperfections, you want this one, you need it, not that one, it’s got a mark on it, until you decide, until you see, that they belong together, alone they are nice, but together they are magic and captivating, you smile, you sigh, you lay them back down, you let them rest, together

Painted around the same time as “Ukulele Lady” she was gifted to friends when after a major show on the other side of the island she arrived completely warped and couldn’t be hung. She is painted on a masonite panel box. She symbolizes being the sea/see…..rising from the dark…..movement and being still. Notice the Humahumanukanukapuaa. (sounds like huma huma nuka nuka ap poo a a)..Hawaii’s state fish. Sometimes it’s hard for me to put my images into words since the point is that they are images asking to be seen and everyone has their own to see…...

Chambered center of a nautilus shell that has been processed with the fractalius filter. /

Taken while canoeing in Juniper Springs Wilderness Preserve, North Central Florida. I believe this to be an “American Coot”. They can be seen in copious numbers sunning themselves on fallen trees or outcropping of rocks when the weather is right. I love to watch them scrambling over each other for the best spot in the sun. / / *Note of interest: Last shot of the day, because upon taking this, my canoe went sideways up against this very tree that the little turtle is sitting on, scaring him to death and tipping me into the water! My camera was saved by a miracle…I don’t know how I managed to keep it above water! Also from Juniper Springs Wilderness Preserve*

I am very fond of shells and love to see how unique each one is. I have yet to find a shell that was the same. They are molded and shaped by the ocean and are unique and to be treasured. Like people we are also molded and shaped though life experiences but no one is ever the same. We are all unique in our own right and should be treasured. Enjoy how special you are.
