This spectacular coastal scene was a merely 100m from my bed for about 5months – Many times I ventured out early and late to watch and attempt to photograph it how I would best remember it – I hope in years to come this photograph will do it justice… see more photographic works from North Qld. / Nth Qld

Getting to know the stars is an important part of landscape photography. Using a compass and G.P.S I was able to pinpoint the South Celestial Star. Because of the rotation of the earth, using a six hour exposure gives the feeling of the stars trailing around this point. I used a 5 million candle power flashlight to illuminate the sand dune. Because of the massive size of the dune I had to climb an adjacent dune and paint the light on from there. Camera – Fuji Gx617 / Film – Fuji Velvia

Explore – Highest – Nov 20, 2008 #16 Another storm photo from Brisbane from last night (Nov 20th). The water laps up to the road almost at the moment. So to avoid getting fried, I decided to set the shutter on remote and get the right exposure. Then fire it and run out of the water to the car. This was taken shortly before a few drops of rain came. I knew then I had a few mins to get in the car quickly. Then came the heavy rain, just making it home before the hail! BEST viewed large on BLACK

This is just one of the hundreds of photos i came up with – a simple pan of some of the hi-rise apartments. / The big pointy bugger is the Q1 building – the tallest residential building in the world.

A menacing gustfront surges towards Tin Can Bay in Qld…In no time these calm waters are sent into turmoil with gale force winds and 2cm hail. Camp sites are blown over or torn apart. The power of nature never ceases to amaze and put us and our existance into perspective. / / rotating drum lens camera 130deg. field – no cropping, no stitching. Taken from my front lawn (well till Wednesday when we move) in Cannon Hill, Brisbane, Australia – this was the third massive storm in 3 days that has broken rainfall records in Brisbane for the most rainfall in November since 1981. The media claims it is the worst flooding since the infamous 1974 Brisbane flood – en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974_Brisbane_flood Once the storm passed I headed out from my safe haven on the front deck to find this amazing cloud spewing out lightning. I was out shooting a spot in the area when I saw the storm coming in the distance, so I waited and got a few shots and then rain came. I managed to get past McDs on Wynnum Road into the industrial area to put the full beam on to see where I was headed. Just as I passed Cannon Hill station the hail started and I got in the garage just as it hammered down. I must thank the neighbours for the light trails.
