I’ve been keeping a close eye on the featured and popular pages on Red Bubble, and wondering where all the painters, illustrators and graphic artists are?! There are some AMAZING artists working in these media on the site, but it just seems like they’re all being lost in the system. I have nothing against photography or the photographers, but it’d be nice to see a more even spread. So – do your bit! Upload your best painting, illustrative or graphic pieces Seek out painted and illustrated works Comment, fave and watch! The popular algorithm is a closely guarded Red Bubble secret, however I’m sure doing the above things can help boost painting and illustration on this site. I know we can all help bring attention to the amazing artists on this site who deserve to have a little light shone on them! I will go through my own watch list and select and feature artists who I think deserve to be a little more popular. I have sent in my request to have an Illustration group on RB, and Kathleen emailed me back a few days later and said that many people had requested the same thing and that they were nutting out a plan for launching such a group. I really can’t wait, I do think a group dedicated to illustrators might be the shot in the arm needed for illustrative artists. If you’re with me, let me know!! Spread the word! (I have submitted this to a few groups, please let me know if this is appropriate – because I think it is, and highly beneficial to us all!!)

Anybody can paint! But most are put off by the early errors they make. / At the age of 47, I picked up a brush for the first time. It was an instinctive thing, as I was (and am) crippled with chronic exhaustion and high pain levels. Two years on, I love painting, and don’t care if I make mess of it. Or that I’ll only get a few comments. It’s wonderful therapy. I’m starting a course soon at the local art gallery, which involves analysing the original paintings of the masters. And then incorporating these techniques, into our own modern work. I’ve already done this on most of my paintings in my gallery on redbubble. I’ve used J.W. Turner on my last two, Lindisfarne and Corinth. My earlier watercolours, involved the style of the unknown industrial watercolourist Thomas Harrison Hair, from the early 19th century. And some techniques, by John Singer-Sargent. So much potential for further improvement, or changing style. Just do it! Anybody can paint! The best therapy…painting!

Fortunately for you, they didn’t sell at the cafe (I suspect people didn’t know they were for sale because my artist’s cards were removed from beneath them) and I have picked them up, so they are available directly from me now. These are exclusively available as original artworks only – no one in the world will ever have a print of your painting! I will gladly ship within Australia as well as overseas, but p&h will be extra and insurance is recommended. I accept PayPal, or Direct Deposit if you have an Australian bank account. All works feature painted sides, title of piece on rear, and are signed under “N.Baird”.

Since the journal entry with the air show pictures turned out OK, here is another very small group of pictures that I originally painted with an actual brush and either oil (or acrylic) or watercolor. I thought there were more paintings in my RB portfolio, but mostly now I do only digital work. Even these paintings were photographed and subjected to minimal manipulation to restore anything that may have been lost in the photographic process. For the Little Chapel, for instance, I had to shoot through the glass of its frame (I couldn’t unframe it, the picture doesn’t belong to me anymore, and I had to visit its new home in order to photograph it), so in order to process out the glare on the glass, I had to composite 2 or 3 different shots. /

I know Jim’s work really needs no special praise among his friends at RedBubble; / but I thought you might like to see how wonderful one of his most recent paintings looks hanging on the wall at the home of my sister, along with the holiday decorations on her mantle. Signature of Autumn here: I’m not sure that the photos do it justice Jim, but it does look beautiful hanging in the house! Congrats and Regards xo / Terri

I log on to RedBubble every day, and am warmed and inspired on a daily basis of the Sense of Community that the website offers me. My watchlist alerts me to the new works by my favorite artists. I was very impressed and inspired today by a new work by Penny Ewardes and her portrait of her cat done in colored pencils. I bought a fairly cheap set of 42 colored pencils last month, and have been experimenting with them on different types of paper and illustration board. Then today I came across another artist, Kat P with a portrait of her dad in colored pencil, truly amazing work!! RedBubble is proving to be a rewarding and inspiring place to be on the internet world of artists.

watercolors – information provided by wikipedia:

Watercolor (US) or Watercolour (UK) (and "aquarelle" in French) is a painting method. A watercolor is the medium or the resulting artwork, in which the paints are made of pigments suspended in a water soluble vehicle. The traditional and most common support for watercolor paintings is paper; other supports include papyrus, bark papers, plastics, vellum or leather, fabric, wood, and canvas. In East Asia, watercolor painting with inks is referred to as brush painting or scroll painting. In Chinese and Japanese painting it has been the dominant medium, often in monochrome black or browns. India, Ethiopia and other countries also have long traditions. Fingerpainting with watercolor paints originated in China.
