  • Lemons and Roses by Jean Hildebrant

Received these roses as a gift from friends that joined us for Thanksgiving dinner. I set up this still life with them and shot in natural light in raw mode and converted in PSCS3. I added a bit of texture and a few minor adjustments.

  • The Red Shoes by Adriana Glackin

I love shoes, and these are my most extravagent pair. Click these heels and you’ll dance the night away, sing karaoke and play the maracas till the wee hours of the morning…then it’s off to the cobbler to have them re-heeled and ready in time for the next weekend.

  • Decker's Hump Hill's Pig Rings by Richard Nixon

I’m at a loss on this one. I was trying to throw junk in the basement away so I could sort of have a studio set-up. I didn’t try and be arty . . . I will figure out something to do with this that will be worth it’s oddity, I believe, but for now . . . uh . . . huh? Decker’s Hump Hill’s Pig Rings? I just shot it with on camera flash . . . it’s . . . not quite right. I have three boxes of this and a real desire to make a pithy statement about Muslims or something. I should be able to piss people off with this one. But wait. Don’t buy it now (yeah, right). Let me figure out how to make it really offensive to large groups of people. Honest, I’m going to spend all day tomorrow seeing how offensive I can make this. I can probably spin this to piss off three or four major religions. I’m so excited.

About This Group

Still Life Photography begins with a thought or vision in your head. The photographer not only takes the photograph, but completely creates it from the ground up: the background, setting, lighting, composition of the inanimate object, the mood or overall tone of the image.

Most photographers tend to use Still Life as an outlet to experiment with different techniques; to push boundaries, to be more creative and artistic. We are completely creating how we want the viewer to see, to feel, to experience the image, and it is because of this that Still Life normally shows an artist’s distinct personal style and expression.

Most Still Life Photography begins with a controlled environment with adequate lighting conditions to properly convey the image. Thus the majority of Still Life images are created in studios or lightboxes. But this is not always the case. We may happen to stumble upon the perfect opportunity for stills in our everyday lives. But the image must be purposely and skillfully composed to create a specific intended image, otherwise it is just a snapshot and not a Still Life.

Please follow the group rules and most of all…get creative!
