  • Into The Abyss by Katya Silkova

  • silent by Neil MacPhail

I noticed the empty space between acts during a music festival. I wanted the washed out look to highlight an almost lonely performance space, as well as enhance the equipment left on the floor.

  • The "angry" drummer by richardseah

Harvey looks at times angry. At times, he looks like he is in agony. Actually, he is just totally immersed in his drumming. Harvey is one half of a two-man British group, the other being guitarist Ben, called “Etc”. They performed last night (30 November 2008) at The Esplanade open air theatre in Singapore. I actually met Ben on the way there. He was asking directions from the bus driver and I figured he was going to The Esplanade, so I offered to show him the way. He asked why I was going there and when I said I was going to watch a music concert, to my surprise he said: “I’m performing”. The other thing that surprised me was how much noise this duo could make! Their performance was, at times, very LOUD! – with Harvey driving a mean tempo. You can hear that he is a good drummer. You can see it too! —

  • Wait till you hear him scream and shout... by richardseah

This is Ben, who, together with Harvey the angry drummer make up the British rock duo, Etc. Ben is the one I met on the bus on his way to the performance. I was suprised he took public transport there, rather than a taxi! Perhaps the organisers of the event did not pay him enough, LOL! But he was very casual about it all. Ben looks kind of meditative here, doesn’t he? But wait till you hear him scream and shout! He is, after all, a rock musician and his show was very high energy. He and his buddy can really create a big loud noise! The Esplanade, Singapore, 30 November 2008 __

  • Lapping It Up by Jane Keats

My other favourite group at this year’s Queenscliff Music Festival hailed from Byron Bay. These guys are keeping Aussie Rock alive, but giving it a kick up the proverbial as well with some progressive roots sounds. They shift with ease through raw and dirty to melodic and reflective. I’ve always liked a good three piece, all members have to be more than good to make it work. Pictured: Marshall O’Kell – lead vocal, lead guitar, slide guitar. Marshall And The Fro

  • THE BAWDIES by Jane Keats

Straight from Tokyo to the Queenscliff Music Festival in southern Victoria, Australia, “The Bawdies” are influenced by artists like Buddy Holly, The Beetles, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, etc. They have a huge amount of entertainment value, personality and energy on stage. Language barriers are not a problem, these guys had the crowd jumping and screaming from the moment they announced “Are you ready?!!” in their heavy accents. To hear them, check out www.myspace.com/thebawdies but to truely appreciate them I highly recommend seeing these guys live on stage!
