  • Standing Tall by Fremme

Took this while in Monument Valley at the very end of the day as you can tell by the shadow and the colors here, this is straight out of the camera, no adjustments what so ever. Thought it showed the effect of time ans weather on very old standing rocks which have seen and survived the test of time. / Canon Xt, 70 to 200mm lens at dusk. / AS is, no changes done here, natural light at dusk.

  • Gregg-Cable House by Gary L. Suddath

This house was built around 1879 by Leason Gregg. It is thought to be the 1st frame houses built in the cove. It has been shifted and added to over the years. Besides being a home, it has also been a boarding house and store on the 1st floor. Leason bought an acre of land from John P. Cable and built the house. Lumber for its building was sawn on the place. In 1887 Rebecca Cable and her brother Dan bought the place. Rebecca died in 1940 at 96. After her death the house was moved from Forge Creek Road to its present location……This place is found about half way around the Cades Cove Loop Road, GSMNP. Several other structures are located her as well as Cable’s gristmill. A visitor center is also located on the property…..When the park took over they were several frame houses in the cove and park. Since these were NEW houses at the time they were removed.

  • Glacier Wildflowers 6 by Tamara Valjean

Wildflowers include Mountain Buttercups, Showy Asters among others. Glacier National Park, Montana, USA. Shot this in 2005 on my little digital camera. Using Photoshop, I adjusted the levels and saturation to bring out the colors. The spring wildflowers were just magnificent that year. • Golden Morn II by Gary L. Suddath

Early Appalachian life must have been filled with golden mornings. Wonder how often they would pause from their chores, and just drink in the glorious light filtering through the fog. Stopped and gave thanks to God for his blessings and felt at awe with his creation. Wonder how often they knew they had found their pot of gold. Not in a monetary sense, but in the riches of life. They struggled from day to day but how often did they rejoice at what they were blessed with. The coolness of the mist upon their face. The warmth of the sun as it forged its way through the fog. The sounds of nature as she too is awakening to greet the morn. Wonder how rich they may have felt seeing the warm glow softly lighting the fruits of their labor. You too can feel this. You too can feel awakened and renewed with the dawn, if only willing to experience it. Visit and help preserve that which we are blessed with.……Image taken at the Mountain Farm Museum, GSMNP

  • Cypress Knees by Richard G Witham

There is some discussion about what these “Knees” are for, but I just accept them for who they are. These stump look-a-likes are actually protrusions stemming from the roots of the cypress trees under the water. They may be a sort of buttress for the tree to maintain stability on such soggy ground. Then again; they could exist to help the tree absorb oxygen that it can’t find under the bog, but I think they’re just interesting parts of nature that should be talked about less and photographed more. This photograph is part of my Floating Forest series of images taken at a Cypress swamp along the Natchez Trace Pkwy, National Park in Mississippi. / For more info on the Natchez Trace, please follow this Link /

  • Last Evening Light by RandyJayBraun

From inside the Grand Canyon - if you are camping - it becomes a familiar sight to witness the orange glow on the walls. It will last for an hour, or so, during sunset, and constantly change until there is that final minute…. where you practically hold your breath hoping that the final rays of light will not disappear too quickly. When the light stops hitting the top of the wall, then comes a sudden darkness deep within. But wait! The stars!!!!
